WiseGut

Privacy policy

WiseGut helps you find your trigger foods, log how you feel, and see your own patterns. Here is what we collect, what we do with it, and what control you have.

Last updated: 14 September 2026

1. Introduction

WiseGut ("we", "our", or "the App") is a gut health app. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how to get it deleted.

WiseGut is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat anything. The full disclaimer is in our terms of service.

2. What we collect

Account information. Email address, name, and the age, gender, height and weight you give during onboarding. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication.

You can start using WiseGut without an account. The first session is anonymous, and your data is saved under an anonymous ID until you decide to sign up.

Health and wellness data. Your daily check-ins, which can include tummy pain, bloating, stool, mood, stress, sleep, water, medication and supplements, menstrual cycle if you track it, and your own notes. Also the food photos you take, the ingredients read from them, the FODMAP ratings of the dishes you scan, and the goals and conditions you tell us about.

Usage data. How the app is used, your device type and operating system version, and push notification tokens so reminders can reach your phone.

Companion data. Your conversations with WiseGut, and the patterns generated from your own logs.

3. How we use it

  • To run the app: save your check-ins, rate the food you scan, and show you your own history.
  • To find your patterns. WiseGut reads your logs to point out which foods line up with your rough days. These are patterns, never a diagnosis, and each one states how many logged days it is based on.
  • To make search work. We turn your entries into embeddings, a numeric representation that lets the app search your own history by meaning. They are stored in Pinecone under your user ID.
  • To send reminders: meal-time nudges and an evening check-in reminder. At most four a day, and nothing between 22:30 and 07:30.
  • To improve the service, using aggregated and anonymized usage patterns.

Our agreements with these providers prohibit training on your data. We do not sell your data to anyone.

5. Storage and security

  • Health data is stored in Firebase Firestore, with rules that only let your own account read your own records.
  • Calls to AI providers are proxied through our cloud functions. API keys never touch your phone.
  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
  • Embeddings in Pinecone are namespaced by user ID and cannot be turned back into the original text.

6. Keeping and deleting your data

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active.

Deleting your account. Settings has a Delete account button, and it takes everything with it: your profile, every check-in, every scan, the trigger findings built from them, your streak, your chats with WiseGut and the notes it kept. Your search vectors go from Pinecone at the same time. Not anonymised, not archived, deleted. This cannot be undone.

The erase runs on our servers, started by the deletion itself, so it does not depend on your phone staying online to finish. It cannot half-happen.

What stays. Two things, neither of which is about you:

  • A count of how many people use WiseGut. It is one number and a timestamp. It carries no user ID, no timestamp precise enough to single anyone out and no text. Nothing is published until at least 25 people are behind it.
  • What the app has learned about foods, which is stored by food name and holds no user ID. A fact about garlic is not a fact about a person.

Your subscription is separate. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions before you delete, or it keeps renewing. There is more detail on our support page.

7. Your rights

  • See your data, in the journal and insights screens.
  • Correct it, by editing any check-in or scan.
  • Delete your account and, on request, everything logged under it.
  • Turn off notifications at any time in your phone settings.
  • Ask us to stop AI processing of your data, by contacting us.

If you are in the EU (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you may have further rights. Contact us to exercise any of them.

8. Children

WiseGut is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
